Important Swan Lake Performance Details!

Good afternoon!  I hope you all had a great spring break and a refreshing first week back to school and ballet :)

Our Swan Lake performances are fast approaching!  This email contains a lot of information, so please read thoroughly and view all attachments!  You do not want to miss out on important information about the upcoming weekends.

Rehearsals and Full Run-Through:

Please see the attached rehearsal schedule and call times for the dress rehearsal and performances.  Take note of the times you and your dancer are called!  It is very important that all dancers attend the upcoming weekends of rehearsals, including the full run-through on May 3rd, since we are only a couple weeks from the performances.

Our full run through at the studio is scheduled for Saturday, May 3rd, 1:00-6:00pm.  All dancers and cast members are required to attend this rehearsal.  Village Girls/Cygnets are excused early at 3:00pm and Village Youth/Swan Flappers are excused at 4:00pm. It is a long day, so please send your dancer with a labeled water bottle and snacks to eat during their downtime.

Dress Rehearsal & Performance Days:

Dress rehearsal is scheduled for Friday, May 9th, at Vacaville Performing Arts Theatre (VPAT).  Please see the attached call times for this rehearsal to see when you and your dancer need to arrive at the theater.  If you are volunteering and your dancer is called at a later time than you, please still arrive at your volunteer call time.  Please ensure your dancer arrives in full hair and makeup (details below), and is on time.  Driving to Vacaville on a Friday evening can take some time, so please plan ahead.  We understand this is a school day/night and greatly appreciate your commitment to this performance!

The two performances are Saturday, May 10th at 1:00 and 5:00pm at VPAT.  Please see the attached call times for the shows.  If you are volunteering and your dancer is called at a later time than you, please still arrive at your volunteer call time.  Please ensure your dancer arrives in full hair and makeup (details below), and is on time.  There will be a lunch break in between shows.  We suggest you pack a lunch for your child to avoid the stress of leaving the theatre and coming back all during the short break.

Hair/Makeup/Attire:

You may want to start gathering any supplies your dancer will need for the performances.  Here is what your dancer will need in terms of hair, makeup, and attire:

Hair: Please send your dancer to dress rehearsal and performances with hair in a slicked back bun with no part at the crown of the head.  The bun should be held securely with hair ties, bobby pins, gel, hairspray, and a hairnet.  If you have never used a hairnet on your dancer before, you can find them at stores like Rite Aid, CVS, or Sally's Beauty Supply.  They are the same color as your dancer's hair and wrap around the bun to hold it secure.  It is important that your dancer's hair is secure so that it does not fall out on stage, and free of flyaways which really stand out under the stage lights!  Here is a great basic tutorial for the bun: Performance Bun Tutorial

Makeup: Please send your child in full makeup to dress rehearsals and performances.  We also ask that each child have their own makeup bag.  This helps eliminate germs. Younger dancers are required to have rosy red lipstick, blush, and taupe eyeshadow. Mascara & eyeliner are not required but will help your child's face stand out on stage.  Older dancers are required to have lipstick, blush, eyeshadow, false eyelashes (for ages 13 and above), eye liner, mascara, etc. For lipstick, please wear a wine/red shade that is meant for long wear so that it stays on all day and stands out on stage.  I recommend Revlon colorstay in "ultimate wine" or a similar shade.  Makeup helps define dancer's faces on stage under the bright lights and in the photography and video.

Attire: Please send your child in pink tights, a nude leotard, and pink ballet shoes.  Younger dancers, please make sure to wear a leotard that does not have an attached skirt.  Tights should be as clean as possible with no holes or runs.  You can find attire on amazon, discountdance.com, or at Contra Costa Dancewear in Walnut Creek.  Here is an example of a nude leotard on amazon: https://a.co/d/9afgvzO

Ticket Sales:

Tickets are now on sale at http://vpat.showare.com/beniciaballettheatre!  Invite your friends and family to show off your dancer and support Benicia Ballet!  At the show, make sure to check out all the wonderful goodies for sale in our lobby.  We will also be having a silent auction.  All proceeds from lobby sales go right back into our non-profit organization, Benicia Ballet Theatre, and help us continue to offer dance and performance opportunities to our community.

Volunteering:

We still need volunteers for several positions!  Anyone can help - grandparents, teenage siblings, or family friends.  We cannot do a production of this magnitude without everyone's help!  Sign up here: Sign-up Genius

Youtube:

We are still uploading rehearsal videos to the BBT Youtube page: Swan Lake 2025 YouTube!  Especially after Spring break, I highly suggest watching the rehearsal videos to review choreography before the upcoming weekend of rehearsals.  With limited rehearsal time left, it's important that all dancers know and remember their choreography.  Please remember not to share these videos with anyone outside of BBT or to social media.

I know this is a lot of information so please read thoroughly, view all attachments, and refer back to this email and upcoming emails as needed.  I am always available to answer questions via email at giannazahner@gmail.com.  We are so happy to have you all participating this Spring performance season and look forward to seeing your dancers on the stage!
